FOR SECURITY, AGAINST PRODUCT PIRACY.
Anti-counterfeiting for pharmaceuticals - through serialization and tamper-evidence
According to estimates by the WHO, up to 15% of all medicinal products worldwide are counterfeit. In 2010 this corresponded to a value of $US 75 billion, and the trend is increasing. The reasons: an ever more liberal world economy, the opening-up of frontiers, the spread of internet technology and the high costs and complexity of manufacturing medicines. This not only leads to significant losses for the pharmaceutical industry but above all puts the health of patients at risk and undermines their trust in medicines.
In the fight against product piracy and for counterfeit-proof medicines, more and more governments worldwide are relying on appropriate regulatory systems. Some of these have already been implemented in national legislation. In this context the introduction of serialization is the method of choice for pharma manufacturers, governments and health authorities. In future, track & trace solutions could become mandatory worldwide for all pharmaceutical manufacturers.
Our solution: tamper-evidence and ePedigree
Grey marketing of medicines by middlemen also causes major economic damage. Full proof of the origin of the product in combination with a tamper-evident seal applied as a label makes it impossible to illegally repackage medicines for other markets.
The Traxeed concept for product serialisation, with its harmonised hardware and software components, enables comprehensive data capture, which maps the product cycle in an electronic certificate of origin (ePedigree). This means that the authenticity of each sales unit can be monitored and guaranteed right up to the end consumer. In the serialisation process, tamper-evident features such as a tamper-proof seal can be applied.
The Track & Trace solutions from Traxeed combine product handling with coding and verification of printed codes using proven Seidenader Vision Technology. With our Expert Line software products, the Line Controller and the Multi Line Manager, all legal requirements are met, worldwide.
